UT Sports Has Winning Weekend
It was a good weekend for UT sports. Tennessee baseball returned and Tony Vitello’s Vols looked like the national champion. Tennessee hit two grand slams and outscored Hofstra 46-2 over the three game series. The final scores were 15-0; 18-1; and 13-1. All three of the games were called after the top of the 7th due to the run rule. The Vols kick off the 2025 season at 3-0. They will host UNC Asheville Tuesday with first pitch set for 4:30.
While the baseball season kicked off, the basketball season is hitting the stretch run. The Tennessee men on Saturday got revenge for a loss to Vanderbilt in Nashville. The Vols fell behind in the first half by 16 to Vandy, but Zakai Ziegler would take over in the second half, pouring in 22 points helping Tennessee defeat Vanderbilt 81-76.
For the Tennessee Lady Vols, they continued on their run to the end of the season on a high note. Jewel Spear led the way with 28 points and the Lady Vold win their 20th game of the season with an 80-71 win over Ole Miss. Right now, the Lady Vols are expected to be a top 16 team in the NCAA tournament, which would see them host the first two rounds. The Lady Vols host Alabama on Thursday.
