Vols Dream Of Final Four Dies Again In Elite Eight
For the second year in a row, the dream of the Tennessee Vols going to the final four died in the elite eight. Last year that was at the hands of Purdue. This year, the dream dies at the hands of the Houston Cougars. Houston, who features one of the best defenses in the NCAA, held Tennessee to just 50 points. How bad was it? At one point in the first half Houston led 27-8. The Vols didn’t hit their first 3 pointer till Zakai Ziegler sank a trey with 29 seconds left in the half. The Vols were held to just 15 points in the first half, the lowest scoring for a team in the Elite Eight since seeding began in the tournament in 1979. The Vols never got within 10 points the rest of the game and they fall to Houston 69-50. The Vols finish the season 30-9.
The Lady Vols season also ended over the weekend in the Sweet Sixteen. Tennessee lost to #1 seed Texas 67-59. Kim Caldwell’s first season at UT ends with a sweet sixteen appearance in the NCAA tournament and a final record of 24-10.
