Woman Arrested For Disorderly Conduct
Cocke County deputies arrested a woman Thursday afternoon after she ran out of gas. 72 year old Frances Miller told deputies that she had run out of gas on Old Greeneville Highway, but where deputies spotted her was near the intersection of Highway 321 and Highway 160. Deputies informed her they had someone on the way that could take her to get some gas but they instructed Ms. Miller that it would be safer for her to go back to where her vehicle was located instead of staying on the side of Highway 321, which was seeing heavy traffic at the time. Ms. Miller though refused to go to her vehicle and instead started to walk towards Highway 321 and the heavy traffic.
The deputies told her they would take her back to her car and wait with her, but she refused to leave the side of Highway 321 and refused a suggestion to at least sit on the guardrail. After several attempts to get her to go back to her car, Ms. Miller was told she would be arrested for her own safety if she continues to refuse. Miller told the deputy that arresting her is what he should do. So, Ms. Miller was taken into custody on a disorderly conduct charge. The sheriff’s office says this is not the first time they have had an issue with Ms. Miller. According to deputies, she had called 911 numerous times in the past to complain about people at her home that didn’t exist.
