Former Governor Looking To Bring WNBA To Tennessee
Could the state of Tennessee get another pro sports team? If former governor Bill Haslam has his way, Nashville will get a WNBA expansion team. Haslam and a group of investors on Thursday afternoon submitted their bid to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the league’s expansion committee to bring a WNBA team to music city. Haslam says, if their bid is successful, the team would be called the Tennessee Summitt…paying tribute to legendary UT women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt. Haslam says if the franchise is awarded, the Tennessee Summitt would begin play at Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville in the summer of 2028.
