Hiker Rescued In National Park Near Cocke County
A hiker in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park had to be rescued for medical assistance over the weekend, and this was at a location between Cosby and Gatlinburg. The Tennessee National Guard and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency say they were notified around 5:30pm Saturday that a hiker in a remote area of the park needed medical assistance. The hiker was near Ramsey Cascades waterfall, which is in the Greenbrier area between Cosby and Gatlinburg. Two paramedics from a Tennessee National Guard chopper were lowered down to the ground where they helped the hiker and then hoisted that individual back up to the helicopter. The hiker was then flown to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville and arrived around 8:30pm. The condition of that individual is not known.
