UT And UCLA Quarterback Swap
There’s a new quarterback on Rocky Top. Yesterday, the University of Tennessee announced that UCLA quarterback Joey Aguilar was transferring to Tennessee. That means that Tennessee and UCLA are officially swapping quarterbacks. Former Vol starter Nico Iamaleava finalized his transfer to UCLA over the weekend.
Aguilar transfers from UCLA without even taking a snap with the Bruins. He had spent the last two seasons as the starter for Appalachian State in Boone, NC. At Appalachian State, Aguilar threw for 6,760 yards and 56 touchdowns to 24 interceptions in 25 games with the Mountaineers. He completed nearly 61% of his passes in those games. He had transferred to UCLA earlier in the offseason, but when Iamaleava transferred to UCLA, Aguilar decided to take his place at Tennessee. He gives the Vols a proven starter for the 2025 season, as the only other quarterbacks on the Vols roster are redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and true freshman George McIntyre. Blue chip prospect Faizon Brandon is a year away from joining the Vols.
