Lady Red Run Comes To Quiet End
What was an historical run for the Cocke County Lady Red has now come to an end, just shy of their goal of a state championship. After losing to McNairy Central on Wednesday, the Lady Red dropped into the loser bracket where they had a harder road to navigate. The Lady Red took care of the first part of that business by defeating Stone Memorial for the second tme this week, hammering out 11 hits and 7 runs yesterday morning to advance to another matchup with McNairy Central yesterday afternoon.
The Lady Red would run out of steam. Over 5 innings pitched, Ellie Proffitt was tagged with 5 runs off 8 hits, and the offense that was busy earlier in the day went silent except for one hit and McNairy Central defeated Cocke County for the second time in two days, 5-0. That ends what has been a spectacular run for the Cocke County Lady Red. That included winning their first ever Regional Championship and making it to the final four teams in the state.
McNairy Central will play either Crockett County or Alcoa for the state championship.
