5 Year Old child Injured In Shooting In Sevier County
A 5 year old child is recovering after being shot last week in Sevier County in what appears to be an accident. According to the Sevier County Sheriff’s office, On Wednesday, Feb. 9th around 6:30pm Sevier County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accidental shooting in the 3700 block of Wears Valley Road. Officers arrived and found a 5-year-old male child with a gun shot wound to both the head and finger. The 5 year old boy was transported to UT Medical Center in Knoxville for treatment for his injuries and is expected to survive. An investigation has revealed that the child obtained a handgun from a bedroom in the home and accidentally fired it shooting himself. Detectives with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the Dept. of Children Services are continuing to investigate that situation.
