Cocke County Girls’ Basketball Coach Resigns
The Cocke County Lady Red Basketball team is minus a head coach. This after an announcement Monday morning that coach Chris Mintz handed in his resignation yesterday. Mintz took over as Lady Red coach for the 2020-2021 season, which was marred by the Covid-19 pandemic. Mintz and his team rebounded in the 2021-22 season by going 24-7 and taking Cocke County to their first Regional semifinal game since 2013. After that season, Mintz was named Lakeway Coach of the Year by the Citizen Tribune in Morristown…making him the first Cocke County coach to win that award. His team this year went 20-12 and once again went to the regional semi-finals.
No details surrounding his resignation have been released, although his resignation comes on the heels of his arrest for domestic assault back in March. The team’s statistician, Erin Moore was also arrested in that incident. Athletic Director, Dr. Robert Vick, says the school has begun the search for a new coach. Vick says that the school has wished Coach Mintz well in his future endeavors.
