Flag Retirement Ceremony

On Saturday, 5/23 in advance of the Memorial Day Holiday, the Newport Rescue Squad hosted a ceremony where 600 old, weathered and worn out US flags were given a proper ceremony to retire those symbols of freedom and liberty. Each flag was laid on a grate above fire pits at the rescue squad building, and then turned to ashes. The Flag Retirement ceremony was organized by the AMVETS Post 75 and assisted by Boy Scout Troop 497. A video of the ceremony is posted on the Newport Rescue Squad’s Facebook page.
