Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

A traffic stop led to the arrest of two women in Newport on Tuesday. Police had spotted a vehicle pull out of the Motel 6 parking lot and travel up Heritage Blvd driving on the wrong side of the double yellow line. The vehicle was pulled over in the Weigel’s parking lot. The woman at the wheel was 43 year old Trinnella Newton, who was driving on a suspended drivers’ license. Under the drivers’ side of that vehicle, police found over 12 grams of cocaine separated into three different bags. Two sets of digital scales and a measuring device were found as well.
Newton has been charged with manufacture, sale or delivery of schedule II narcotics. The passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody because of an outstanding capias warrant.
