Storms Dump Heavy Rain Causing Flooding

Storms coming over the same areas of North Central Cocke County dumped heavy rains which led to flooding in the Bybee, Centerview, Parrottsville and Long Creek areas earlier this morning. Three inches of rain fell in just a few hours in the areas near Bruners Grove and Fowlers Grove. That left parts of State Route 160 under water between Bybee and Newport. Other roads in the Parrottsville area, like Smelcer Road and Looney Road experienced flooding along with other roads in the Long Creek area east of Parrottsville.

The area will get a chance to dry out at least for a while as we have a break in the rain. Prior to today’s rain, some areas of Cocke County have seen over 2 inches of rainfall in less than a week, leaving the ground saturated.
