State Releases Report On Newport Utilities Investigation
The Tennessee State Comptroller’s office has released the report on their investigation into Newport Utilities. On Wednesday, the report, which is 12 pages long, detailed numerous items that happened mainly from 2014-2019 under the utilities’ former general manager. Those items include exceeding loan limits put in place by the TVA for NU to use for their broadband division; Paying double for a rental facility costing the utility over $100,000; Lack of oversight as the former General Manager was entering and approving his own vacation and sick time.
