Tennessee Smokies Fans Get Reprieve
Fans of the Tennessee Smokies baseball team will have a little more time to enjoy them in Kodak as Smokies owner Randy Boyd announced on Monday that the team would not be moving to Knoxville till 2025. The original plan was to have the Smokies move into a new publicly funded stadium in downtown Knoxville in time for the 2024 season. However, supply chain issues and a volatile construction market have led the City of Knoxville, Knox County and Boyd Sports to push the relocation back a year. A press release stated that if the stadium was completed early, it would be available for other events such as concerts but Boyd Sports says it would not be feasible to move the Smokies from Kodak to Knoxville during the middle of the season in 2024. So the Smokies will begin the 2025 season in new digs in Knoxville…abandoning Smokies Stadium in Kodak where the AA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs has played for over 20 years
