Woman Encounters Bear At Gatlinburg Hotel
A woman is recovering after being scratched by a bear in Gatlinburg. Police there say a woman walked out of her room at the Super 8 Hotel near the Gatlinburg Convention Center and encountered a bear that was eating out of an unsecured trash can. Police say a similar encounter happened at the same hotel the weekend before on June 29, when a man was scratched by a bear eating from a trash can early in the morning.
The bear that scratched the woman Sunday was accompanied by cubs and after the encounter with the woman broke into a car. The TWRA says the windows had been left cracked open on the car and food was left inside. The TWRA issued the hotel a citation for not keeping their trash secured.
This is the latest in a rash of bear encounters in Gatlinburg in the last month.
