Six Indicted In 2022 Death Of Hamblen County Inmate
Six people have now been indicted in the death of a Hamblen County jail inmate back in 2022. 37-year-old Andrew Joseph Dalton of Whitesburg was an inmate in the Hamblen County jail and died from an overdose. The Knoxville Regional Forensic Center conducted an autopsy and determined the cause of death.
After a lengthy investigation, which included interviewing those who were inmates at the time of Dalton’s death, It was determined that illegal narcotics, namely heroin, which had been introduced into the former jail facility was a contributing factor in Dalton’s death. The six individuals indicted reside in Hamblen County and several surrounding counties. They are currently facing charges of Introduction and Distribution of Narcotics Within a Correctional Facility. Hamblen County Sheriff Chad Mullins says that additional charges are expected to be filed. The case currently is in the hands of District Attorney Dan Armstrong’s office.
