Unresponsive Man Now Facing Drug Charges

A man is now facing drug charges after being found unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle at Weigel’s in Newport. Police were called Saturday night to a vehicle parked at a gas pump. Behind the wheel was 44 year old Benjamin Laws. In plain view was a bag containing narcotics. a bag with methamphetamine was found along with several unused baggies, a metal scoop and digital scales. Several baggies with small amounts of meth measured into them were found. The total amount of meth equaled up to just under 23 grams. 1.7 grams of fentanyl was divided into two small baggies. Laws declined medical treatment and was taken to jail charged with Manufacture, Sale or Delivery of both methamphetamine and fentanyl.
